Hiking

The Scramblers, Ramblers, and Amblers schedule weekly hikes. The group members suggest destinations and lead the hikes. All SRA members and their guests are welcome. The Scramblers do the most challenging hikes, and the Ramblers do the more moderate hikes. The Amblers mostly hike to lunch.

Scramblers

The Scramblers are an energetic, persevering group of members who hike 6-10 miles with elevations up to 2,000 feet (sometimes more, mostly less).  We love the outdoors and we love to take our time enjoying everything the Rockies have to offer.

Our early in the season hikes are designed to get us acclimated and ready (sometimes only 4 miles or so), and then we build up to our regular hikes.  We have several experienced hikers who lead each hike, and we believe in safety at all times.  We start early in the mornings (sometimes 6, usually before 7 am), and we try for hikes that will NOT take all day but get us home in time for naps and other activities.

Ramblers

The Ramblers are a mellow group, and our hikes are generally less than 6 miles with an elevation gain of less than 1,000 feet.  We hike with a group of at least 3 people for safety's sake, and we watch the weather, especially for lightening predictions.  We like to plan our hikes to take in the spectacular scenery in our beautiful Rocky Mountains.  We will start out with an easy hike and then gradually increase our distance and elevation gain.  We usually begin our season to take in the colorful wildflowers that herald summer and end our season with one of two hikes that highlight the beautiful golden aspen of September.

Interested in joining us for a hike, then check out the Event & Activities Calendar and sign up!

Amblers

The Amblers is a social group open to members of all abilities who enjoy getting together for a walk, with an historic perspective, followed by lunch at a local restaurant.  We meet at 10:00 for our walk and plan to be at our restaurant by 11:30 allowing plenty of time for members to get to any other activity by 12:30…ish.  Although I generally plan on a history aspect of our walks, we love to stop and explore nature so if you are a birder or know your flowers do pipe up along the way.  SRA’s new website should allow us to keep in excellent communication should a walk need to be revised due to weather or otherwise.  Feel free to sign up ahead for all the walks you like and your visiting guests are always welcome.  Just let me know in your response if you are not going to have lunch with us.  I like to let the restaurant know how many are coming.  You are also welcome to join us just for lunch…simply let me know and arrive at the designated restaurant by 11:30.
